Ball Jar, Eggplant and Artichoke 11 x 14 - $550

Have been doing a lot of still life setups but haven't painted a lot lately. Here is one I just finished this morning. I'm excited to get to all the other photos I took. Since I like the light to be intense in my paintings. I don't like painting from life, as it's too hard to keep the lighting consistent. Also - I need my easel to be bright - so I paint from photos on my computer.

Owls seem to be very popular these days - so it seemed to make sense to do an owl - but it's hard to find a lot of dimension in an owl - they're pretty "flat". Love their eyes though!

I did a small series of bird paintings. I've done roosters, and doves before - but this is a little new. I love the lines of the Blue Heron - such an unusual bird. I think I may do some larger herons too.

Silver Pitcher and Lemons 16 x 20 - $1,100

I always check out second hand stores for pieces for my still lifes. I now have a whole collection of silver and pewter items that are quite beautiful, though they may have a ding or two. I loved the lines of this one. I've been looking for fabric that has stripes in it, so you could see the stripes in the reflection of the silver piece. This fabric was on sale and beautiful - white on white satin and sheer. It was fun arranging it to get interesting folds. Hope you like it.

Loaves and Fishes 11 x 14 - $550

I've been wanting to do a painting of fish and bread for a long time now, to add to my sacred series, but could never find a whole fish locally. Finally, I noticed Price Chopper had a whole red snapper fish, so I grabbed it. While I was setting up the still life, I left the room for a while, and came back to find my cat Marcello standing over it - pondering if it would be worth the effort to eat!!! Luckily, I caught him in time. After I took the photos, I did treat the kitties to the raw fish....they were quite happy!

Tea & Daisies 11 x 14 - $550

Here's an 11 x 14 from the same still life shoot. I spend a great deal of time setting up still life's and taking tons of photos, then I narrow them down to the ones that will work best. Out of 100 photos, I may get 5 that I actually paint.

Tea and Daisies 12 x 24 - $1,100

Feeling like I'm getting back in the zone. Feels good. I got this teapot at an antique store in Essex, MA. Kind of felt like spring to add the daisies - but unfortunately, it's not spring outside. Despite a very mild winter thus far, we are getting our first snow storm since October! Can't complain. Spring really is just around the corner.

Can't believe how long it's been since I've posted. It's actually been a few months since I've painted. I never go that long. But first the holidays, then some family issues - I was pleased that it was so easy to get back in the zone again....it felt very therapeutic to paint.

Party at Purvi's 16 x 20

This was a commissioned piece, done for a surgeon at Albany Medical Center. She wanted this in her kitchen to designate a bar area. She saw this frame on one of my other pieces and loved it, so we switched the frame around so she could have it for this piece.

Embossed Pitcher & Pomegranates - 24 x 36, $2,000

I had quite a few new pieces, but the gallery didn't want to feature any equine in my show, so I decided to paint one new large still life. It wasn't easy - I'e had a LOT going on lately - two tenants moving in to my apartments - so I have been rehab-ing them, and I was away last weekend with friends in Rockport. I got this pitcher in a second hand store - I think it's from India - hammered and embossed pewter.

White Horse Looking Down 16 x 20 $2,000

I did this piece as a demo on the street in Saratoga in front of the gallery. Every time I did a demo, I'd sell a painting. Only thing is - I have lots of large new horse paintings that likely won't sell until next summer! Anyone want a horse painting?

Saratoga Water and Glasses 16 x 20 - $675

Many of the pieces I'm doing now are Saratoga themed. This one has a Saratoga Water bottle, with lemons and glasses. Saratoga was originally famous for their natural springs. While still quite popular, the race track has surpassed them in popularity. I happen to think that the healing energy of the springs is still what draws people to Saratoga subconsciously.

Time for Cookin' 16 x 20 - $675

I haven't done any kitchen paintings in a while, but there is a request from the Meat House, an upscale specialty butcher shop which is moving in next to the gallery in Stuyvesant Plaza. They will take a rotating display of paintings, which will be for sale as well. The ones I did before had very simple white tablecloths - I'm not sure if I like the more detailed tablecloth or not. What do you think?

For the past two years, I've sold a lot of horse's eye paintings. My favorites are the red horses, and the white ones. They are all in the same frame, so many will buy more than one. This one is of a pony at the Saratoga Race Track. I took several photos of him, and have done 5 paintings already from that photo shoot. The problem now is trying to find names for them!

I sold a nice 24 x 36 still life a few months ago - and it was a big hit. So I decided to do a couple more pieces with the same elements in them. This one is 20 x 20 - the square format makes it look a little different.

Bashful 10 x 20 - $650

Another equine piece. I like the long pieces - either horizontal or vertical. I have trouble finding frames and sometimes they need to be custom - but it's worth it. The gallery said they get a lot of comments on the White horses with the drippy manes - so here's another one.

Serenity - 24 x 36 - $2,000

Sorelle Gallery has been trying to find a location in Saratoga for some time now. At the very last minute, they found one. Because I wasn't sure they would, I didn't build my stock up in equine paintings, as they probably won't do as well in Albany. All of a sudden, it's full systems go, and I've been hustling to get more pieces done. The gallery opened next to the Grey Gelding on July 2nd, and on the 4th, I sold a large 24 x 36 painting - so this is very encouraging. Here is another 24 x 36.

I sold a lot of horse's eyes last year, and only have a couple left. I'm not sure if the gallery is going to find a space in Saratoga this year - but if they do, I want to be sure to have some ready. This was a pony at Saratoga Race Track - photos I took on the backstretch tour - I have done several paintings from these photos - just loved this horse.

I had taken a little break from painting - working on my house - but now I'm back to the easel. This is the first of two roosters, both 8 x 10. It's hard to imagine roosters as being expressive, but I've learned they can be. It's hard finding just the right photos - but I really liked this one.

Baptism 11 x 14 - $550

I'm still working on some new pieces for my upcoming show, and this one is for a new series called "Sacred". I notice that the pieces of mine that seem to touch people the most are my horses eyes and my boots. Both of those touch the heart in some way - by looking into the soul of the horse through their eyes, or as in the boots, because the boots kind of tell a story - sometimes of a loved one - or the concept of being home after a long days work, etc. An ordinary still life of fruit and vases doesn't quite do that, unless it creates a strong mood. So I thought I would try to come up with some pieces that reflect things that are sacred. Next in the series to come is of a young Buddhist monk, and a piece called "Communion". Not sure where it will go after that.
