Lisa's Booby Trap SOLD

If you haven't heard the story of Lisa's Booby Trap please google her. This horse was bought with the $2,000 life savings pulled out of the boot of a guy who spent his life in the horse racing industry - literally, he was born at a race track! He agreed to pay the remaining $2,500 he owed if she ever made it to the track. After he got her home (in a trailer he had to borrow) he realized she had been sold by two previous owners because as they put it "she couldn't outrun a fat man". He thought he'd been taken. She was blind in one eye, had one club foot, and one flat foot. Still, he named her Lisa's Booby Trap, after his wife who died of cancer, who on her deathbed promised to come back as a horse!!! After making some modifications to her shoes (a woman always needs the right shoes!!!) he was shocked to find that she ran like the wind! Before the shoe modification she wouldn't switch leads as she would hit her foot against her leg. I got word of this longshot, who came from the smaller tracks in the Finger Lakes coming to Saratoga - the top of the horse racing circuit. When I saw her in the paddock, I almost cried - you could see the one foot turning in. My son was born with a club foot, and my son in law has one eye, and is a racecar driver. Needless to say, I had a soft spot in my heart for this horse. I knew I'd bet on her anyway - but I honestly couldn't see how she could win with this turned in foot. Well, she came in from last position like wildfire to win the race by 6 lengths - what a joy it was to watch her cross that finish line. I just love stories like this. By the time the race began, stories of this horse took her from 12 - 1 odds to be the 3-2 favorite. So of course, I had to paint her. She's my favorite of the famous horses I've painted!
